Objective of the program “Aid at Home”

The program “Aid at Home” is a social support and protection program that seeks to provide organized systematic care in helpless elderly people and by extension to release and to assist in the vocational rehabilitation of persons and in particular, of women who previously were not able to work because they had to take care of their family member who is completely powerless. This program is through the specialized staff employees to ensure these individuals qualify for an autonomous and dignified living, through their stay in intimate family and social environment, avoiding the institutional internment, to utilize their skills and generally to upgrade their quality of life. The implementation of the above program objectives within the limits of our municipality is undertaken by Municipality of Plastiras Lake with the assistance of the State, offering its services free of charge.

People Who Benefit

The program embraces and treats mostly elderly and persons with disabilities, giving priority to those who are not themselves fully and in need of someone’s care of their immediate family environment, to those who require special care due to emergency or temporary or permanent disabilities, those who are lonely or have been abandoned by family and related environment, but also in those who are facing temporary financial difficulties or do not have sufficient financial resources. The aim is, firstly the vocational rehabilitation of individuals and particularly women family environment of needy people as well as the integration and retention of people in the wider social environment and improving their quality of life through the provision of appropriate services.

Offered Services

The provided services are:counseling and psychological support for people who need help and family environment, nursing care and medical care, prevention, health education, household care, bill payments, stores, family care in personal hygiene and other services deemed necessary. Services are provided through staff visits the house of performing with a frequency which is estimated depending on the needs and peculiarities. The program «Aid at Home» is implemented under the responsibility of the Municipality of Plastiras Lake and aims to ensure a permanent service action to citizens of the Local Communities.

Τhe program is composed by specially trained by officers and scientific staff.

In particular, the professional staff that covers the needs of the program “Aid at Home”, consists of two social workers, two nurses and two family Assistants.

The role and responsibilities of each specialty is:

• Τhe social workers undertake the investigation of health conditions of accommodation and food, family, economic and social situation of the served person by providing the appropriate counseling and psychological support.
• The nurses provide the nursing and medical care of the person who needs help by providing the basic home care nursing services.
• The family assistants offer family care and it is responsible for the cleanliness of the home and for the served person, too.
• The close cooperation with the competent local bodies (KAPI, Fund for poor people, Church, Priest, local advisers of each Local Community) is ensured through the program.
