The Municipality of Lake Plastira, in an effort to honor the author Antonis Samarakis, who was originally from Morfovouni, the seat of our Municipality, announces the “Antonis Samarakis” Short Story Contest, with the purpose of honoring his memory and at the same time creating an opportunity for the emergence of new authors through short stories.
The competition is open to all those who have a Greek education and who write in the Greek language, regardless of place of residence and nationality, so long as they are under 45 years of age.
Each candidate may participate with only one, previously unpublished story, which should not exceed 2,000-2,500 words. There is no set subject. All distinguished authors will receive a special commemorative distinction. The top three will be awarded cash prizes, while the next three will receive special commendations.
The distinguished stories will be published in a special anthology, to be issued by the Kastaniotis publishing house. For this purpose, the participating authors automatically cede the copyright to their stories to the organizers.
The competition is held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture. The jury consists of renowned authors and scientists, chaired by Mr. Vasilis D. Anagnostopoulos, Professor Emeritus of the University of Thessaly.
The contest results and awards will be announced in a gala event at the “Antonis Samarakis” Cultural Center in Morfovouni, Prefecture of Karditsa.
